A Lego off-roader.

By far the best toy I’ve ever owned.

8034_Universal_Set

In fact, a set of toys, because this is only one of the toys which can be constructed from the LEGO Technic 8034 Universal Set, released in 1989.

From the 187 pieces, you can build a tow truck, helicopter, 6-wheeled buggy & the off-roader.

The reason why this is my favourite toy is because, well, it’s a Lego. Which means you build it, rebuild it and modify it in whatever way you want.

& even if at times it was quite frustrating to separate/join the parts, I was never bored of it. In particular, these interlocked parts weren’t easy to work with.

My first experience with gears

At that time, this basic steering system was an engineering marvel for me.

The Technic line was aimed at geeks. Which allows you to fit in a separate 9V motor (from the 8720 set), power the rear wheels and remote control it.

This rear door is one of my own modifications.

Looks like the Tumbler. :)

There’s also a seat, but unfortunately the minifigs I have don’t fit on it.

Bottom view. Yeah, it’s rear wheel drive.

One last addition, the removable roof.

Why do I love cars? Because of this toy.
