Trois Mamelles

IMG_0638

Strictly speaking, it should be 1 Mamelle because we climbed only one of the 3 breasts...

The last time I had climbed a mountain was Corps de Garde, last year. Hence 2 months ago, thanks to the GPS tracks provided by fitsy.com, I ventured towards my first trek of 2012.

Montagne des Signaux at night

IMG_1296

The last time I climbed Signal Mountain, I said I would be back for another attempt at sunset, with a better camera. Only this time, I had two new cameras to test; my S100 and another one with a 41MP sensor

Mauritius South-East Road Trip - Part 1

DSCN6673

A month ago, I took to the roads to visit the South-East part of Mauritius.

In the previous road trip, we had stopped at Rivière des Anguilles and gone further South towards Souillac & then drove till the West coast. This time though, we planned to go East from Rivière des Anguilles...

In Part 1, half of our day had already been spent in Souillac. As we left Rochester Falls, for the first time, we were moving West…

Montagne des Signaux

DSCN1195

Le Morne de la Découverte, now known as Signal Mountain or Montagne des Signaux, stands at 323m (1058 ft) above Port Louis. It got its name from the French era signal-post built on the summit to guide the ships in harbour and which has now been replaced by an antenna farm.

Of all Mauritian mountains, Signal Mountain is the easiest to climb. Mainly, because it has a tarred road that goes up to the summit, which can be done on foot or in a vehicle.

So, how easy can it be?

The annual pilgrimage to Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) for the festival of Maha Shivratri. The weather conditions were exactly the same as last year, so the photos look very similar.

Corps de Garde

DSCN7527

Towering above the towns of Rose Hill & Quatre Bornes is Corps de Garde, which at 720m, is the 5th highest mountain in Mauritius. After conquering Le Pouce, Lion Mountain & the Black River Peak, I was looking forward to my last hike of 2011 on a mountain with a very comfortable slope & a nearly flat summit.

How hard can it be?

Lion Mountain - Part 1

DSCN4411_2

Last Sunday (the 25th September), after watching some planes take off, I was on my way to the actual adventure of the day - climbing Montagne Lion. After conquering the 812m of Le Pouce twice, I couldn't wait to climb Lion Mountain & it’s paltry 480m!

I mean, how hard can it be?

Triolet to Réduit

A better title would have been traffic jams in Mauritius….

Contrary to the previous video (Triolet to Port Louis), using the new Triolet bypass road and the motorway from Calebasses.

A 1 hour journey recorded on the N900 and edited on Windows Live Movie Maker. 6 hours to upload.

Triolet to Port Louis

From Triolet to Port Louis at 200km/h! Actually, a 45 min journey, speeded up by 8x (& 16x at the traffic jams).

Recorded on the N900. Edited using Windows Live Movie Maker. Inspired by Yashvin’s video – In the car – Asté dipain. :)

My initial idea was to do time-lapse photography. However, the app was buggy – kept the same exposure throughout & gives blank photos after 300 shots. So I decided to just record a video… Notice the N900 falling down at a certain speed-breaker! :p
