Pieter Both

IMG_2567

This is the most iconic mountain of Mauritius. A national symbol which features on the official logo of the Mauritius. At 820m, the 2nd highest mountain of the island has claimed many victims among the brave who dared to defy it…

Trois Mamelles

IMG_0638

Strictly speaking, it should be 1 Mamelle because we climbed only one of the 3 breasts...

The last time I had climbed a mountain was Corps de Garde, last year. Hence 2 months ago, thanks to the GPS tracks provided by fitsy.com, I ventured towards my first trek of 2012.

Time to get back in the game.

Montagne des Signaux at night

IMG_1296

The last time I climbed Signal Mountain, I said I would be back for another attempt at sunset, with a better camera. Only this time, I had two new cameras to test; my S100 and another one with a 41MP sensor

Mauritius South-East Road Trip - Part 1

A month ago, I took to the roads to visit the South-East part of Mauritius.

In the previous road trip, we had stopped at Rivière des Anguilles and gone further South towards Souillac & then drove till the West coast. This time though, we planned to go East from Rivière des Anguilles...

Corps de Garde

DSCN7527

Towering above the towns of Rose Hill & Quatre Bornes is Corps de Garde, which at 720m, is the 5th highest mountain in Mauritius. After conquering Le Pouce, Lion Mountain & the Black River Peak, I was looking forward to my last hike of 2011 on a mountain with a very comfortable slope & a nearly flat summit.

How hard can it be?

Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire

DSCN3736_stitch_2

At 828m, the highest point in Mauritius - the Black River Peak, most commonly known as Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire. This photo was taken last year when I had gone for a hike with fellow bloggers down the Black River Gorges. At that time, I had decided that one day I would definitely climb that mountain.

Well, that day has finally arrived. After having earlier savoured the views from Cascade 500 pieds, we were now on our way to conquer the highest peak in Mauritius.

Lion Mountain - Part 2

DSCN4881

In the last post, we had been abandoned & left to explore the village of Treize Cantons in Vieux Grand Port. So far, we've had a history lesson, crossed a dual bridge, frightened a spider & saw some floating lands. Now, it was time to climb the mountain – Montagne Lion, 480m.

Le Pouce II

DSCN3285_2

Another trek to Le Pouce Mountain, this time with some fellow tweeps. That was on last Sunday, the 31st July.
It was only 3 weeks before that I had climbed Le Pouce, hence the experience was still fresh in my mind. But this time I was better prepared, so climbing it should be a cinch. I mean, how hard can it be?

Le Pouce

DSCN2349_2
Le Pouce Mountain. At 811m (or 812m), it is the 3rd highest peak in Mauritius. & from what I've heard, one of the easiest to climb. Look at it, it’s just an over-sized hill…

I mean, how hard can it be?

Dawn

After the twilight series, here’s another set of sun panoramas. Dawn.
The video isn’t that good because of the trees blocking the landscape…
